Advanced Access Control Features Keep Project Files Secure

Advanced security measures built into AVAproject allow users to share project files with complete confidence.

Data security issues have become recurring headlines in both the technology press and the mainstream media of late. Data breaches and information leaks have become common fixtures in the context of a society embracing connected technology as an essential component of everyday life.

For industries such as finance and architecture, which routinely deal with sensitive and often confidential information this concern has moved to the forefront. Companies increasingly spend inordinate sums of money on network security, ensuring that project and financial data remain protected behind firewalls and encrypted servers.

For the architectural industry, the bidding process is a centerpiece of most distributors' business models. Product costing and bid prices are kept strictly confidential as a leak of this information could leave the company exposed to competitive bids based on this data.

AVAproject contains a number of power security features designed to protect project data on a "file level". This essentially means that individual files and the data they contain is protected independently of where they are stored and any network security that might be in place. This means the files can moved, stored offsite and even sent electronically - all with complete confidence.

Project File Encryption & Access Control

AVAproject (.APJ) files are fully encrypted as they are written. This process obfuscates the data contained in the file and makes it unreadable on a binary level, and as such to outside applications. This does not however prevent other AVAproject users from opening the file. It's for this reason that additional layers of security were built into the software to enable users to exercise control over who is able to read or modify the project data.

The 'Project Security' dialog in AVAproject provides access to a variety of project locking options. Users are able to restrict others from either modifying the project data or opening the file entirely. Either of these security measures can be activated by selecting the corresponding check box provided.

In addition to a password that can be individually established for each project file, there are two additional security checks than can be put in place.

User must be with this same company

Each AVAware key and user account is connected to a company account group, of which they are a member. When selected, this option prevents anyone by any AVAproject user that is not associated with the company of the file creator.

User must be logged in

This option prevents anyone from opening/modifying the file unless they are currently logged in using a valid AVAware user account. This offers the ability to effectively "lock out" users that have left a company, by simply deactivating their online account.

Note: This option is only made available is the creator of the file is themselves 'logged in' to a valid AVAware user account.

The presence of these advanced locking tools enable AVAproject users to safely store project files and share them with colleagues, all without compromising either security or convenience.
